Garotte
aka Gizmo, Y13 Colt
16.1hh, Liver Chestnut
Dirt: Great. Turf: Great.
Preferred Distance: 9-12 Furlongs
Racing style: Mid/Variable
Gizmo is quite quick from the gate, his alert nature helping him to break well, but quickly drops back toward the middle of the field, where he is at his most comfortable. He stays in this position for most of the race, perhaps (depending on the field) moving up a little with urging from his jockey but quite content to remain where he is. It is in the final stages that Garotte really tends to shine - not quite a full on closer, but with a lot of power and heart, he will move quickly up the field from around the eight furlong mark and really make his move in the final furlongs.

Gizmo is a real character in the stable, and one colt that is not easily forgotten about.
With a tendency to challenge his handlers and jockey, and take over if they prove weak, some would describe him as willful and difficult. He has an attitude that needs constant watching and reinforcement when on the track which can quickly lead to issues if not dealt with swiftly. Much of this, however, if caused by boredom - a side effect of his sharp mind.
To those who are willing to look past the more difficult aspects of the colt's persona, they will find many positive traits. Gizmo is an alert horse with a lot of energy and confidence. He is eager to run, with a strong competetive streak. His sharp mind means that he tends to learn quickly in training.
If kept focussed on his task, Gizmo really is a brilliant horse. He doesn't react to other horses either by being over eager or avoiding them, seeming almost indifferent to their presence off of the track and would much rather benefit from positive reinforcement for behaving.
